About Cartlight
Cartlight checks whether an online shop shows warning signs before you buy, and shows you exactly why.
What a result shows
Each check ends in a light: green, amber or red. When we couldn't check a shop, no lamp is lit.
Every light comes with its reasons, one plain sentence each, and the evidence behind them. A result describes what we found on the date it shows. It is not a judgement about the people behind a shop.
Why Cartlight visited your shop
If you run a shop, you may have found this line in your server log:
Cartlight/0.1 (+https://cartlight.io/ about)
A person may have asked Cartlight to check your shop: they pressed Check shop or Check again, or sent a dispute.
Cartlight also visits some shops on its own, to test how well its checks work, for example shops that public warning lists name. These visits obey your robots.txt.
What a check does
- It reads the shop's own pages one time, as a browser does.
- It stops after 60 seconds at most.
- It does not buy anything, log in or fill in forms.
- It also reads public facts, such as the date the domain was registered.
If a result looks wrong
Every result page has a link to dispute the result. We re-check the shop within 72 hours, a person reviews the result, and we reply by email.
